How’s It Taste?

Abu Coffee Panama Geisha Anaerobic Natural GN-1955 delivers an enchanting experience with aromas of lavender and lemongrass leading into flavours of cherry, strawberry, and peach. Its gentle, honeyed sweetness and delicate bergamot finish create a cup that’s as intriguing as it is balanced.

In contrast, Abu Coffee Panama Geisha Washed GW-2660 offers a complex, layered profile with a fragrant bouquet of jasmine, caramel, and stone fruit. Expect a vibrant mix of nectarine, green apple, and hints of green tea that culminate in a well-balanced, lingering finish that's full of character.

Who’s Behind This Amazing Coffee?

Abu Coffee is a true legacy of passion and quality from Boquete’s Highlands. Founded in honour of José Guillermo Luttrell Tedman - a third-generation coffee producer fondly known as “Abu” - short for Abuelo, meaning grandfather in Spanish. The brand carries forward his vision of crafting the perfect, well-balanced cup of Geisha. Today, under the guidance of Jose Lutrell, Abu Coffee continues to uphold this tradition with sustainable cultivation and meticulous processing at Hacienda Cañas Verdes.

The Process

Anaerobic Natural GN-1955:
The journey begins with hand-collected, perfectly ripe cherries that are carefully floated with mountain spring water. They first undergo a 24-hour sun pre-dry on elevated beds, then enter a sealed anaerobic phase for 72 hours - intensifying their fruity characteristics and acidity - before finishing with a final sun-dry lasting 25 days. This double-phase approach creates an expressive cup bursting with vibrant, yet delicate flavours.

Washed GW-2660:
After hand-picking, cherries are meticulously sorted to ensure only the best make the cut. They then undergo an anaerobic pulping and a 24-hour dry fermentation, followed by a thorough hand-wash with pure mountain spring water. The beans are then dried on raised beds for 15 days, preserving their clean, complex flavour profile.

The Region

The Cañas Verdes region of Boquete - an area known for its lush, tropical forest microclimate. Nestled on the slopes of Volcán Barú National Park, the coffee thrives in nutrient-rich, well-drained volcanic soils, creating the perfect foundation for exceptional coffee production.

At 1,550 meters above sea level, the plantation benefits from natural shade provided by native trees, fostering biodiversity while regulating growing conditions. The region’s unique climate plays a vital role in shaping the coffee’s character - strong daytime sunlight is softened by Bajareque, a fine tropical mist, along with dense morning and evening fog, ensuring slow, even cherry maturation.

Sustainably cultivated and carefully nurtured, Abu Coffee is a testament to the harmony between environment and expertise, delivering a cup that reflects the richness of its origin.
