Specialty Coffee Blends

Our signature coffee blends are roasted to deliver a consistent, tasty cup every day, built specifically to pair perfectly with milk or shine as a rich Long Black. We source these seasonal beans from ethical farming partners, combining complementary profiles to ensure a clean, smooth extraction that reliably anchors your morning routine.

Each coffee blend uses two or more coffees chosen to match a clear flavour profile. We roast each origin separately on our Loring S35 Kestrel to bring out its best qualities. Once roasted, the coffees are blended fresh, then packed and delivered to you.

Choosing The Right Coffee

What are coffee blends?

Coffee blends are designed for consistency, so you get the same flavour every time you brew. They are dependable, familiar, and easy to enjoy day after day.

We create our blends using specialty grade coffees from origins like Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, and others. Each coffee is roasted separately to bring out its best qualities, then carefully blended before packing.

The result is an everyday coffee with a flavour profile you can rely on, cup after cup.

Types of coffee blends

At Blackboard Coffee Roasters, we offer different coffee blends to suit specific flavour preferences. We currently have four blends, and each one highlights distinct flavour profiles, making it easier to find the one you’ll enjoy most:

  • Seasonal: Complex & Balanced (Berries - Citrus - Milk Chocolate)
  • Bold: Rich & Full-Bodied (Dried Fruits - Chocolate - Caramel)
  • Organic: Sweet & Comforting (Raisin - Citrus Zest - Vanilla)
  • Dark: Strong & Satisfying (Fudge Brownie - Hazelnut - Toffee)

If you want to try them all to find your favourite blend our bundle is the way to go!

Coffee Blends vs Single Origin Espresso

While our blends are the workhorses built for your daily Flat White, we also source and roast Single Origin coffees for espresso. Blends combine beans from different farms or regions to create a highly stable, repeatable flavour profile (think fudge brownie, roasted hazelnut, and caramel). Single origins highlight the unique terroir, processing method, and specific micro-climate of one singular farm.

If you want a reliable, comforting brew, stick to a blend. If you are looking to explore distinct, focused flavour profiles with higher acidity, like dark cherry or crisp green apple, our Single Origin Espresso lineup is exactly what you need.

Specialty Coffee Blends FAQ

For espresso extraction, we recommend resting our blends for 7 to 14 days post-roast. This allows excessive carbon dioxide to degas from the beans resulting in a much more even, tasty extraction.

A blend combines beans from multiple origins to create a balanced, consistent flavour profile year-round, ideal for pairing with milk. A single origin comes from one specific farm or cooperative, highlighting unique, highly specific flavour notes and acidity, making them excellent for drinking black.

As a gold standard, we recommend starting with a 1:2 ratio (like a 20g dose of dry coffee yielding 40g of liquid espresso) extracted between 27 and 32 seconds. However, because each of our blends has its own sweet spot, we will share the specific recommended recipe directly on your order so you can nail a tasty brew at home!
